Accounts suggested the WWWF “may allow” Bruno to keep the belt. “Technically, the best of three falls constitute a title match,” the newspapers reported. This was nonsense of course, but since the same language was used in both dailies, it’s likely someone from the promotion drafted it and called it in. It calls to mind the reason for the WWF split from the NWA over the Rogers-Thesz match.
