In the fall of 1961, we see Yetter start to gently chide promoter Pedro Martinez for the first time. In this letter, he seeks to explain why attendance in Buffalo is down. He notes that Martinez is "spending a fortune" to use live TV to get fans to the old Aud without success. Some of Yetter's reasons are familiar to mat fans: Martinez overused The Sheik and his quick fireball matches, he overused a main event attraction such as the Gallaghers (who'd be in Buffalo for three more years), and Chicago TV piped into Buffalo might have siphoned some fans. This is the first reference to Fred Kohler's Chicago promotion muscling in on Martinez' territory. More challenges would follow.
